Merida

Yucatán's largest city

Merida is a city name appearing in multiple Spanish-speaking regions, most notably the capital of Mexico's Yucatán state and a city in western Venezuela.

The Mexican Merida, founded in 1542, is known for its colonial architecture and proximity to Mayan archaeological sites.

The name also belongs to the spirited Scottish princess protagonist in Pixar's animated film *Brave* (2012), which popularized it as a given name for girls.
