harbor

Where boats moor

A harbor is a sheltered body of water where ships can anchor safely—either a natural inlet or one improved with breakwaters and docks.

By extension, harbor means any place of refuge or shelter: a harbor from the storm.

To harbor is to shelter or conceal: harbor a fugitive.

Figuratively, to harbor feelings or thoughts is to hold them privately: She harbored doubts about the plan.

He still harbors resentment toward his brother.
