Veracruz
Gulf coast city
Veracruz is a state on Mexico's Gulf coast, and its largest city and major port.
The name means "true cross" in Spanish.
The state is known for its African-influenced music and dance traditions, particularly son jarocho.
The port city was the main gateway for Spanish colonial trade and has been invaded multiple times throughout Mexican history: We drove down to Veracruz for Carnaval.
