gulfs

Wide water bays

Gulfs is the plural of gulf—large inlets of ocean extending into land, larger than bays: the gulfs of Mexico and California.

Gulf also means a wide separation or difference: the gulf between rich and poor, a gulf in understanding.

To gulf something is to swallow it up, though this use is rare.
