Antarctic Ocean

Circumpolar frigid sea

The Antarctic Ocean, also called the Southern Ocean, is the body of water surrounding Antarctica.

It is the fourth-largest ocean, where the cold waters circling the southernmost continent meet the warmer waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.

Its recognition as a distinct ocean rather than extensions of the three adjoining oceans varies among geographers.
