state lines
Regional political divisions
State lines are the borders between U.S. states.
The phrase appears most often in contexts involving jurisdiction—crimes that cross state lines become federal matters, and regulations change when you cross state lines.
The plural dominates: you rarely hear of a single state line unless specifying which one.
