moon

Planetary companion sphere

The moon is Earth's natural satellite, the luminous object that waxes and wanes through its monthly cycle.

By extension, any natural satellite of a planet: Jupiter has dozens of moons.

To moon is to gaze dreamily or listlessly, as if staring at the moon: He mooned about the house for days.

In slang, to moon someone is to bare your buttocks at them.

A moon is also a month, from the lunar cycle: many moons ago. (Capitalized Moon refers specifically to Earth's satellite as a proper noun.)
