datum

One recorded measurement

A datum is a single piece of information or fact, the singular of data.

In technical and scientific contexts, it refers to one measurement or observation: Each datum was recorded by hand.

A datum also serves as a reference point for measurement or calculation—a baseline from which other values are determined: sea level as a datum for elevation.

Outside specialized fields, datum sounds formal or pedantic; data has largely taken over for both singular and plural.
