sleep cycle
Rest pattern repetition
A sleep cycle is one complete progression through the stages of sleep, from light sleep through deep sleep and REM (dreaming) sleep, typically lasting about 90 minutes.
A full night's rest involves four to six cycles.
The term also refers to a person's overall pattern of sleeping and waking: Her sleep cycle is completely disrupted from working nights.
