tiding
A piece of news
Tiding is an archaic or literary word for news or information, almost always encountered in the plural: glad tidings, tidings of great joy.
The word survives mainly in religious and holiday contexts, particularly Christmas carols and biblical translations.
Outside these set phrases, it sounds deliberately old-fashioned.
