channel

Broadcast frequency band

Channel is related to canal and that sense conveys many of its meanings.

A channel was originally a conduit for water; today, the word is more frequently encountered when it’s a conduit for a signal or information (satellite sports channel) or a conduit for chemical transfer (the cell’s potassium channel).

When you channel something, you direct the flow or expression of it in a particular way: The wealthy benefactor channeled her money into charities working to alleviate hunger.
