coves

Small sheltered bays

Coves is the plural of cove, a small sheltered bay or inlet along a coastline: The boat anchored in one of the rocky coves.

By extension, a cove can be any sheltered recess—a cove in a cliff face, or in architecture, a concave molding where wall meets ceiling.

In older British slang, a cove was a man or fellow: a dodgy cove.
