electroencephalogram

Brain's electrical readout

An electroencephalogram is a recording of electrical activity in the brain, produced by attaching electrodes to the scalp.

Abbreviated EEG, it's used to diagnose epilepsy, sleep disorders, and other neurological conditions.

The test itself is often called an EEG: The doctor ordered an EEG to investigate her seizures.
