CT scan

Cross-sectional X-rays

A CT scan is a medical imaging procedure that uses X-rays taken from multiple angles, processed by computer to create cross-sectional images of bones, organs, and soft tissues.

CT stands for computed tomography.

The technique provides more detail than standard X-rays: The CT scan revealed a small tumor.

Also called a CAT scan.
