concussion
Skull-rattling brain injury
A concussion is a brain injury caused by a blow to the head, typically producing temporary symptoms like confusion, headache, or memory problems.
The word also means a violent shaking or jarring impact: the concussion from the blast rattled windows.
In sports medicine, concussion protocols now govern when athletes can return to play after head trauma.
