hyperpolarization
Beyond resting potential
Hyperpolarization is the increase of electrical charge difference across a cell membrane, making the inside more negative relative to the outside.
In neurons, this makes the cell less likely to fire—the opposite of the excitation that triggers nerve impulses.
The inhibitory neurotransmitter caused hyperpolarization of the postsynaptic membrane.
