coma
Deep medical unconsciousness
A coma is a state of deep unconsciousness from which a person cannot be awakened.
It results from severe injury, illness, or poisoning affecting the brain: He remained in a coma for three weeks after the accident.
Separately, coma is an astronomy term for the hazy envelope surrounding a comet's nucleus.
