EKG

Cardiac rhythm readout

EKG is a medical test that records the heart's electrical activity, producing a graph of peaks and valleys that reveals rhythm abnormalities, heart attacks, and other cardiac conditions.

The abbreviation comes from the German spelling (Elektrokardiogramm), while ECG follows the English.

Both are used interchangeably: The doctor ordered an EKG to check for arrhythmia.
