Persian Gulf
Strait of Hormuz's basin
The Persian Gulf is a shallow body of water between the Arabian Peninsula and Iran, connected to the Arabian Sea through the Strait of Hormuz.
It borders Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman.
The region holds strategic global importance due to its vast oil and natural gas reserves; much of the world's petroleum passes through it.
Some Arab nations prefer the term Arabian Gulf, though Persian Gulf remains the internationally recognized name.
