Islam's holiest city
Mecca is the holiest city in Islam, located in Saudi Arabia.
It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and home to the Kaaba, toward which Muslims face during prayer.
Every able-bodied Muslim who can afford it is expected to make a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.
Non-Muslims are prohibited from entering the city. (Lowercase mecca means any place attracting devotees.)
