Iraq

Ancient Babylon's location

Iraq is a country in the Middle East, bordered by Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, and Iran, with a small coastline on the Persian Gulf.

Ancient Mesopotamia, often called the cradle of civilization, occupied much of what is now Iraq.

The country holds some of the world's largest oil reserves and has been shaped by decades of conflict, including the Iran-Iraq War, the Gulf War, and the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.

The war in Iraq dominated news coverage for years.
