Tigris

Iraq's ancient river

The Tigris is a major river in southwestern Asia, flowing from the mountains of eastern Turkey through Iraq to join the Euphrates near the Persian Gulf.

Together with the Euphrates, it defined ancient Mesopotamia—the "land between the rivers"—where some of the earliest civilizations arose.

The Tigris and Euphrates rivers cradle the history of human settlement.
