dust storm
Wind-driven earth cloud
A dust storm is a weather event in which strong winds lift large quantities of dust and sand into the air, reducing visibility and sometimes covering vast areas.
Dust storms occur in arid regions where loose soil is exposed: A massive dust storm swept across the desert.
The Dust Bowl of the 1930s brought devastating dust storms to the American Great Plains.
