coastal desert
Arid shoreline region
A coastal desert is a dry region along a seacoast, typically formed when cold ocean currents cool the air and prevent moisture from reaching the land.
The Atacama Desert in Chile and the Namib Desert in southwestern Africa are classic examples.
Despite their proximity to water, coastal deserts receive almost no rainfall, though fog from the ocean may provide some moisture.
