Baltic Sea
Scandinavia's southern shore
The Baltic Sea is a brackish inland sea in northern Europe, bordered by Scandinavia, the Baltic states, Poland, Germany, and Russia.
Connected to the North Sea through narrow straits between Denmark and Sweden, it has low salinity due to limited tidal exchange and substantial freshwater input from rivers.
The sea has historically served as a major trade route, particularly during the medieval Hanseatic League era, and remains important for shipping and fishing today.
