Coral refers to marine invertebrates that build hard calcium carbonate skeletons, forming reefs in warm shallow seas.
A coral reef is an ecosystem of extraordinary biodiversity.
The word also names the pinkish-orange color of certain coral species: coral lipstick, a coral sunset.
As a modifier, coral describes this distinctive hue or things made from coral: coral jewelry, coral beads.
