shore
Where waves break
Shore is the land along the edge of a body of water—ocean, lake, or river.
The shore is where water meets land: We walked along the shore at sunset.
To go ashore is to leave a boat for land.
Shore also functions as a verb meaning to support or prop up, usually with *up*: They shored up the foundation with timbers.
Figuratively, you can shore up anything that needs reinforcement: shore up a failing argument, shore up public confidence.
