jetty
Harbor's protective arm
A jetty is a structure extending into water, typically built of stone, concrete, or wood.
Jetties serve as breakwaters protecting harbors, as piers for mooring boats, or as barriers directing water flow at river mouths: We walked out to the end of the jetty to watch the sunset.
The word also works as an adjective meaning jet-black, though this use is rare and literary.
