backcountry
Far from civilization
Backcountry is remote, undeveloped land far from towns and roads—wilderness areas where you're largely on your own.
The term appears often in outdoor recreation: backcountry skiing, backcountry camping, backcountry hiking.
It implies terrain without marked trails, lodges, or easy rescue access.
In some regions, backcountry simply means rural or sparsely settled areas away from population centers.
