waves
Disturbances through media
Waves are ridges of water moving across a surface, caused by wind or disturbance.
The ocean's waves crash on beaches; smaller waves ripple across ponds.
Wave extends to any undulating motion or pattern: waves of grain, radio waves, heat waves.
A wave of something is a sudden surge: a wave of nausea, waves of immigrants.
To wave is to move the hand in greeting or signal, or to move back and forth: flags waving in the breeze.
Hair that waves has gentle curves. (Capitalized Waves or WAVES was the women's naval reserve in World War II.)
