blood
Courses through veins
Blood, the red bodily fluid common to vertebrates, is a vivid metaphor for many other meanings.
It can be used to convey kinship (blood relation), violence (blood flowing in the streets), and inherent qualities: Music is in her blood.
A blood relative is one with whom you share an ancestor.
New blood means new people, especially with reference to a failing institution: The company needs new blood to increase revenues.
Blood may also be said to boil (indicating anger) or run cold (indicating terror).
