gross anatomy
Visible body structures
Gross anatomy is the study of body structures visible to the naked eye—organs, muscles, bones—as opposed to microscopic anatomy, which examines cells and tissues.
Medical students learn gross anatomy through cadaver dissection: The first-year curriculum includes gross anatomy and biochemistry.
