chromatin
Packaged genetic substance
Chromatin is the material that makes up chromosomes—a complex of DNA wound around protein spools called histones.
In the cell nucleus, chromatin exists in loosely packed form when genes are being read and condenses into tight, visible chromosomes during cell division.
The chromatin structure determines which genes can be expressed.
