biology
Science of life
Biology is the scientific study of living organisms—their structure, function, growth, evolution, and distribution.
The word covers everything from molecular processes within cells to ecosystems spanning continents.
A person's biology refers to their physical nature: Her biology made her susceptible to the disease.
In casual use, biology often means innate rather than learned characteristics: It's just biology.
