preparation
Work done beforehand
Preparation is the act of getting ready for something, or the state of being ready: Preparation for the exam took months.
A preparation can also be a substance made for a specific purpose—a pharmaceutical preparation, a skin preparation.
In the plural, preparations are the activities undertaken before an event: Wedding preparations are underway.
To do something in preparation for something else is to ready yourself for what's coming.
