shortwave
International radio band
Shortwave refers to radio frequencies between about 3 and 30 megahertz, capable of traveling long distances by bouncing off the ionosphere.
Before the internet, shortwave radio was how people tuned in to foreign broadcasts: listening to the BBC on shortwave, a shortwave radio.
The term works as noun, adjective, or verb: to shortwave a message across the Atlantic.
