delimiter

Text region divider

A delimiter is a character or sequence that marks the boundary between separate elements in data.

In text files, commas delimit fields in CSV format; in file paths, slashes delimit directory names.

Programmers choose delimiters carefully—the character must not appear within the data itself, or it will cause parsing errors.

Use a pipe as the delimiter if your data contains commas.
