sketch

Rough pencil work

A sketch is a rough, quick drawing that captures essentials without fine detail—preliminary work before a finished piece, or a casual rendering: He did a sketch of the cathedral.

By extension, a sketch is any brief outline: a sketch of the plan.

In comedy, a sketch is a short comic scene, typically part of a revue or variety show.

As a verb, to sketch is to draw or describe roughly: She sketched the idea on a napkin.

In slang, sketchy describes something suspicious or unreliable, and sketch can mean a shady person or situation: That guy seems sketch.
