conquistador
Armored New World explorer
A conquistador is a Spanish or Portuguese conqueror, specifically the soldiers and explorers who invaded and colonized the Americas in the sixteenth century.
Cortés, Pizarro, and their contemporaries subjugated the Aztec and Inca empires, often with brutal efficiency.
The term now applies figuratively to anyone who conquers aggressively: corporate conquistadors expanding into new markets.
