hacienda

Latin American ranch

A hacienda is a large estate or plantation, especially in Spanish-speaking regions of the Americas.

The term evokes colonial-era agricultural operations with sprawling lands, often including a substantial main house.

In contemporary use, hacienda may describe any large rural property with Spanish architectural influence: They converted the old hacienda into a boutique hotel.
