chronicler
Historical event documenter
A chronicler is someone who records events in order, typically as a historical narrative.
The term suggests a methodical, often firsthand account of happenings over time, as opposed to analysis or interpretation.
Medieval chroniclers documented the deeds of kings and the progress of wars.
In modern use, chronicler often describes journalists, historians, or writers who thoroughly document a particular subject or era: She became the chronicler of small-town American life.
