Pizarro

Peru's Spanish conqueror

Pizarro refers to Francisco Pizarro (c. 1478–1541), the Spanish conquistador who conquered the Inca Empire in Peru.

With a small force, he captured the emperor Atahualpa, extracted an enormous ransom in gold and silver, then executed him anyway.

The name evokes ruthless colonial conquest and the destruction of indigenous American civilizations: He fancied himself a Pizarro, bringing civilization to the savages.
