Moctezuma

Conquered Aztec ruler

Moctezuma is the name of two Aztec emperors, the second of whom ruled when Spanish conquistadors arrived in 1519.

Moctezuma II's encounter with Hernán Cortés and the subsequent fall of the Aztec Empire made him a figure of historical tragedy.

The name appears in Moctezuma's revenge, a humorous term for traveler's diarrhea affecting visitors to Mexico.
