fusilier
Rifle regiment member
A fusilier is a soldier in certain infantry regiments, originally one armed with a fusil—a light flintlock musket.
The term now survives mainly in regimental names in British and Commonwealth armies: the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, the Royal Highland Fusiliers.
The historical weapon distinction has long since disappeared, but the designation persists as a mark of tradition.
