Balboa

Panama's monetary unit

Balboa has two main meanings.

It is the basic monetary unit of Panama, named after the Spanish explorer Vasco Núñez de Balboa, who crossed the Isthmus of Panama and became the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from the Americas.

Balboa is also a style of swing dance that originated in Southern California in the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by close partner connection and intricate footwork: They took balboa lessons to prepare for the vintage dance competition.
