genus
Groups related species
A genus is a category in biological classification grouping related species—broader than species, narrower than family. *Homo sapiens* belongs to the genus *Homo*; dogs and wolves share the genus *Canis*.
More loosely, genus means a class or kind of things sharing common characteristics: a new genus of political campaign.
