zoology
Creature biology field
Zoology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of animals—their structure, physiology, classification, behavior, and distribution.
A person who studies zoology is a zoologist.
The word is sometimes used loosely to refer to the animal life of a particular region: the zoology of the Amazon basin.
In casual usage, people sometimes shorten it to zoo, though that more commonly refers to a place where animals are kept for public viewing.
