Darwin

Natural selection pioneer

Darwin refers to Charles Darwin (1809–1882), the English naturalist whose theory of evolution by natural selection transformed biology.

His name appears in countless scientific contexts: Darwinian selection, Darwin's finches.

Darwin is also a city in northern Australia, capital of the Northern Territory.

To receive a Darwin Award is to die through spectacularly foolish behavior, thus removing oneself from the gene pool—dark humor invoking natural selection.
