taxonomy
Systematic grouping study
Taxonomy is the science of classification, especially the systematic categorization of living organisms into hierarchical groups—kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.
More broadly, any scheme for organizing things into categories: the taxonomy of literary genres, a taxonomy of user behaviors.
The plural taxonomies often refers to competing classification systems for the same domain.
