atrium
Skylit interior court
An atrium is a central open space in a building, typically rising through multiple stories and often topped with a skylight or glass roof: The hotel's atrium was filled with tropical plants.
In anatomy, an atrium is one of the two upper chambers of the heart that receive blood from the veins.
The word originally meant the central hall of a Roman house, open to the sky.
